Highwater Theatre

Arts based program for high risk young people

Highwater Theatre Program

The program is an arts based program for high risk young people, aged 12-15 years of age (out of school; involved with Juvenile Justice, Child Protection; Youth Welfare Agency) in the Wodonga area.

HighWater Theatre is a joint initiative between Somebody’s Daughter Theatre, Gateway Community Health Service and the Department of Education and Training (Vic).

The young people along with professional artists will constitute a local theatre team aimed at drug prevention and improving teenage emotional and physical wellbeing. It will also provide education and training for those who work with individuals experiencing drug, alcohol and emotional health issues.

The Highwater Theatre Project intends to effect positive change on three main levels:

  1. For the participants in the program – rural youth at risk.
  2. For those who work with young people and their families – e.g. teachers, youth workers, counsellors, etc.
  3. For the community in general who attend performances and exhibitions with a particular focus on schools and other youth settings.

An evaluation has been undertaken by Osfield Consultants and is available: Highwater Theatre Evaluation.
